Allopathy treats diabetes as increased glucose in the blood as per a certain standard. Hence the treatment is only based on lowering the glucose levels with medicine. Exercise and diet are also suggested as ways to either reduce the glucose levels by either consuming (burning) excess glucose or by reducing the intake of carbohydrates in the diet.
Unfortunately the harsh reality is that no one has come out of diabetes by managing sugar levels.
In fact many diabetics end up getting BP issues, Heart and Kidney Problems and/or their diabetes starts manifesting itself as neuropathy, retinopathy, and weight (muscle & tissue) loss even after maintaining sugar levels.
Simplifying or identifying a problem leads to a solution
Let’s first start by understanding the role of Glucose in the human body. Your Body Runs & Repairs Itself with Energy. The Fundamental Source of Energy is Glucose. The body uses this to run and repair itself.
So glucose can be high for many because:
- If the system is unsettled at night
- If the immunity is weak
- If the digestion is poor
- If there is any infection
- If there is an injury
- If there is anxiety/fear in the system
- If organ damage is happening in the system
- If the body is unable to adjust to weather change
- If there is vaat-pitta-kapha imbalance
Now none of the above problems are solved by bringing glucose levels down. If that was so, many people would have come out of diabetic problems by lowering sugar levels.
To solve the diabetic problems, it is critical to understand the mechanics of diabetes.
Let’s define diabetes from the human mechanics perspective – the one that leads to a solution.
We will also use Ayurveda terms for this because it at least points to a problem that can be solved.
What happens when you eat anything?
At a basic level of understanding, the food you eat is converted into proteins and glucose by the body. Proteins are used for formation of material – cells, tissues, organs, hormones, enzymes etc. Glucose is converted to energy for running and repairing the system.
Let’s take it to a deeper level.
The food that you eat digested and gets converted into a certain juice/essence (rasa). (This is the first level of metabolism.) This rasa is converted into blood (Rakhta). Now this juice has your stamp or identity. The blood has your stamp or your identity. This juice extracted out from your food will be converted into something that is according to your identity and your nature. Only then will your body absorb it. Otherwise, it will not accept it.
A simple way to understand this is if you make a drawing which is not up to the mark or usable. What will you do? You will toss it away and make another one, isn’t it?
What does the body do when this happens?
1. Hunger pangs – It will demand more food (again and again) so it can convert it into a rasa of your identity.
2. Frequent Urination – The body will make feel thirsty and throw out excess un-utilizable glucose through urination. It will also throw out what is not as per its identity. It will do so by making your thirsty and frequent urination.
3. Low energy – the glucose converted from food is not usable. Notice the irony – glucose is high but the
energy is low.
Let’s get back to metabolism.
This conversion of rasa into your identity is done by something called Samana Vayu. Samana means like me – it has become like me. Understanding this is critical as it can lead to a solution.
Now in terms of Vayu Samana will perform the role.
In terms of Pitta, a factor called Ranjak Pitta will do this function. This is located in your liver and spleen. That is where your blood gets made. The liver and spleen have the Ranjak Pitta which converts the juices into blood – your identity.
Now only when your food turns into a fluid (liquid), only then it will be converted into your blood.
This kapha or material is called Kledaka – it has the ability get converted into juices or fluids. When this is not happening, that condition is called Sama-Ranjak-Kledaka Dosh.
What does it mean in simple terms?
The energy eco system is disturbed. The System is getting disintegrated in strength and function.
This is called Soma Dosha.
To come out of Diabetes one needs to re-establish integration or establish Soma Sthapna. This is what we do in our Soma Sthapna – Kumbhak Therapy for Diabetes program.
